What is Spay & Neuter?

Spaying or neutering your cat or dog is when the male or female reproductive organs are surgically removed from the animal. Many veterinarians perform this routine procedure.

Spay is the term for removing the female reproductive organs from a female cat or dog. Neuter is the surgical removal of the male organs from a cat or dog.

What are the Benefits of Spay and Neuter?

There are many benefits to getting your cat or dog spayed or neutered. Health issues, such as certain cancers can be avoided. Unpleasant behaviors such as aggression, spraying the home, and fighting other cats and dogs can also be diminished when a pet is spayed or neutered.

When Can I Get My Pet Spayed or Neutered?

You can get your cat or dog spayed or neutered as early as several months old.  An older animal can also get spayed or neutered. If you can, take your pet in for the procedure before they develop bad behaviors related to aggression and others.

What is the Surgery Like?

Surgery for spay or neuter is very minimal.  They will be given general anesthesia before the surgery, so they will not feel pain during the procedure. You can take your pet home on the same day of their surgery. They may be uncomfortable for a few days but should be fine after.

You can fill out the new patient forms from the comfort and convenience of home, or fill them out at your first appointment. We will then do a general physical exam on your pet to make sure they are healthy enough for the procedure, then we can discuss a time for you to bring your pet back for surgery.
